Vidarbha
Vidarbha holds two-thirds of Maharashtra’s mineral resources and three-quarters of its forest resources, and is a net producer of power. Vidarbha region contains Tadoba Andhari Tiger Project , Melghat Tiger Reserve , Bor Wildlife Sanctuary , Navegaon National Park , Umred Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary . Pench Tiger Reserve is one of the premier tiger reserves of India and the only one to straddle across two states: Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
Vidarbha is rich in its agriculture produce and can set up base for Agro and Food Processing players. The region is known for Oranges, Cotton and Soya beans. Nagpur is the largest orange growing district, Yavatmal is the largest cotton growing district and Bhandara is the largest rice growing district.
The City of Nagpur is strategically located in the central India. Nagpur is connected to India’s four major metropolitan cities [Mumbai (800km), Delhi (1080km), Kolkata (1220km) and Chennai (1120km)] by road, rail and air. North-South corridor (Kashmir to Kanyakumari) & East-West corridor (Silchar to Porbandar) passes through Nagpur via NH 7 & NH 6 respectively. Thus Nagpur is considered a major transhipment hub. In addition, Nagpur’s International Airport, presence of the Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) depot, ICD Borkhedi and MIHAN makes Nagpur an International Cargo Hub.
Vidarbha has a high amount of educational institutes which helps to meet the demand of human resource assets in the IT/BPM and Pharmaceuticals sectors. Presence of IIIT, VNIT, and IMT gives a boost to knowledge based sectors in the region. Establishment of IIM Nagpur & AIIMS Nagpur gives Vidarbha an edge over neighbouring regions in terms of having quality human resource.
